Elective classes are offered to all middle and high school students. Elective classes include: physical education, weight training, keyboarding, Spanish, art, drama and music through El Sistema Colorado. These elective courses are offered with academic rigor equivalent to the core subject areas. Products resulting from these courses are celebrated in special arts events and performances.
El Sistema Colorado provides the music program at Bruce Randolph after a decade-long absence of music in the school. Instruction is provided by Denver Public School Music Teacher and Lead Teaching Artist Hollie Bennett along with a staff of other Teaching Artists. Our in-school program provides multiple levels of instrumental ensemble instruction for both middle and high school students. After-school opportunities include individual and small group lessons and Drumline offered Monday through Thursday.
The goal of Bruce Randolph Physical Education is to expose students to a variety of individual, team, and fitness activities that they can participate in outside of school so they can maintain their personal fitness levels. Bruce P.E. classes will promote, design, and develop lifelong health and fitness goals as well as teach students the importance of staying active, eating healthy, and showing good sportsmanship, teamwork, attitude, and respect in everything that they do. More importantly, Bruce Randolph Physical Education will help students think positive about exercise and how to live a physically active lifestyle. American Heart Association recommends a minimum of 60 minutes of physical activity a day. In order to help reach that requirement, students will be participating in a variety of aerobic and anaerobic activities every day in class while wearing state of the art pedometers that track students’ steps, activity time, and MVPA time (Moderate to Vigorous Physical Activity). Research has proven that a physically fit student is a smart student. There is a strong correlation between physical activity and academic success; physical activity can help students focus, improve behavior, and boost positive attitudes.
The goal of the Art Department at Bruce Randolph is to provide students with a positive, creative, and meaningful learning experience.
